I’m a few days late on this story, but here is the article from the local newspaper about the youth shelter:

I’ve had lots of supportive comments about the knitting ministry for these boys, and a few people have indicated that they would like to help out with knitting. Please keep the shelter staff, youth, and the knitting group in your prayers.
This morning at church we learned the the Youth Shelter is opening tomorrow (February 5th).
It was nice to have a tour and see all the changes that have been made in the parish hall to make the transition to a youth shelter!
There are beds for 6 male youth, and the possibility of adding 2 rooms in the future for females.
Looking at the setup, it is a nice place to sleep, but definitely does not yet have a feeling of “home”. I can picture the rooms with quilts or knitted or crocheted balnkets and other items to make it feel more homey.
I have so many ideas for this knitting group! Pastor Eric said this morning that there are approximately 100 homeless students in this district! One Hundred!!?? There is a great need for hats, scarves, and other warm items for these kids! Not just the few that will be staying at the shelter.

Here’s a quick update:
I stopped by the office and talked to Susan this week. She will be putting an announcement in Sunday’s bulletin and also in The Spirit next month. I am excitied that this project is beginning!
I will not be in church this Sunday (the 28th) because I am attending a knitting retreat in Tacoma. If you have any questions, you may leave a comment here on the blog, or email me.

Amazing Grace Knitters
Who are we?
- People of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church of Grays Harbor, and anyone else interested in participating in this project.
Why are we knitting?
- Well, besides just for the sheer enjoyment of knitting or crocheting…
- We are knitting or crocheting items for the youth who will be staying in the youth shelter which is located on the ground floor of the parish hall of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Aberdeen WA.
What are we knitting?
- hats
- blanket squares (8×8 inches square) Please try to be as exact as possible, it makes it much easier to sew together.
- Any other items that you think teenage boys and girls might need: socks, gloves, sweaters?!
What kind of yarn should I use?
- superwash wool
- acrylic
- fibers that won’t felt / full
- yarn that teenagers will wear (as in no ‘fun fur’ or novelty yarns please!)
